But a shadow of a real cabinet.

Houses of ParliamentToday sees the beginning of labour as an opposition – many weeks after the General Election that saw them thrown from the real cabinet, Labour has decided who shall be the Shadow Cabinet. Ed Miliband has given some surprise twists to the fate of the MPs most likely to take on key positions by, not giving them the job.

So what has his cabinet got?

The most notable position in the shadow cabinet, the Shadow Chancellor had two lead runners, Ed Balls and his Wife, Yvette Cooper, I presume that Ed thinks neither of them can count, and if they are anything like Gordon Brown and Alister Darling’s time in the office, it is a strong possibility. No, the role of Shadow Chancellor has went to that of Alan Johnston. He might not be the new generation that Ed was looking for but, perhaps that might be a good thing, as much as I hate to admit it, older people do seem to be better at financial management than younger people. Everyone knows I have my share of money problems!

Mr Balls has however been made the shadow home secretary so at least we wont have demon head masters running the home office any more, and his wife has taken on the role of shadow foreign secretary. This I do not like the sound of – they are married and trying to take on the positions of home and foreign affairs? This sounds like trouble will be ahead of the Labour party.

Many of the more well known candidates of the party have opted not to stand for the shadow cabinet, as previously reported , Jack Straw has made way for a new generation to take up the important roles. Without a doubt this will be an interesting time for the party as the new faces start to form new relationships in their positions of power.
